Preparing for CTP Assessment
The purpose of CTP and CTP Online is to assess what your child knows and can do at the time of testing. It is based on what has been taught or learned up to that point. This enables your child’s school to identify strengths and weaknesses on an individual and group level. CTP is considered a “low stakes” exam, intended to help teachers and administrators make decisions about curriculum and classroom instruction.
Because of this, there are no test prep materials available for the CTP exam. It is designed to assess what students know and not their ability to identify the probable right answer. Used in this way, the CTP serves as a diagnostic tool and helps yield reliable results.
Tips:
- Be sure your child is well rested prior to testing. A good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast will help your child concentrate better.
- Your school may supply a list of needs for test day, such as pencils and erasers. Ask if there is anything your child may need prior to test day.
- Give yourself plenty of time to get to the school to avoid rushing and causing stress for the student.
NOTE: While tutoring may be available through outside resources, due to the purpose of CTP, ERB does not promote the use of tutors for this assessment.
