Scoring and interpreting scores for ISEE

Receiving the Score Report

After testing, answer sheets and essays are sent to the ISEE Operations Office for scoring of the four multiple choice sections and production of the Individual Score Report (ISR). Copies of the ISR and the unscored essay will be provided to schools and/or counselors as selected by the applicant family at the time of registration. Schools will receive a copy of the student score report and essay in approximately 7-10 business days (1-5 business days for the ISEE Online).

Parent Report

A copy of the Individual Score Report (ISR) only is sent to parents, and addressed “To the Parents of…” (For students taking the ISEE Online, the ISR will be provided to parents via the online ISEE web portal).  The parent report lists all schools who received the student’s ISR.

School Report

A copy of the Individual Student (ISR) and essay will be provided to those schools requested at the time of registration. School reports do not list all recipients, only the individual school name.

ISEE Score Report Difference

One critical difference between the ISEE and other admission tests is that it assesses both achievement and reasoning.  Additionally, there is an unscored essay section for your evaluation.

The ISEE scoring report enables school administrators to easily view:

  • Applicant grades
  • Student profiles
  • Section total scores
  • Quantitative & verbal reasoning breakouts
  • Reading Comprehension and Mathematics Achievement breakouts
  • Item details showing where a student answered correctly, answered incorrectly, and did not reach an answer. (Note: ISEE does not penalize for incorrect answers)

If you just received applicant ISEE scores and have any questions, please refer to the 'Understanding the ISR' (Individual Student Report) section of What to Expect on the ISEE .

If, once you have reviewed this information, you still have questions, please contact us at  or call (800) 989-3721 ext. 2620.
