Technical Product Manager

Location: New York City Mid-Town ERB Office or Remote

(Ideally located in ERB’s midtown New York City office, though remote working arrangements will be considered.)

ERB is a not-for-profit educational advisory group that provides educators and families with a more complete understanding of the whole student. K-12 schools around the world rely on ERB to provide them with an integrated suite of assessments, insights, and analytics that track the complete student journey--assessing academic ability, learning achievement, and social and emotional learning competencies.
Position Summary
The Technical Product Manager is the product lead for the development of new features for digital products. They provide product-related input for all phases of the software development lifecycle, including discovery, design, feature prioritization, requirements elicitation, user acceptance testing, and release planning. This person is also responsible for incorporating input from internal and external stakeholders into design concepts and feature functionality, and trains team members on final products.
Major Responsibilities
  • Conduct discovery projects and/or lead discovery activities to clarify customer needs, define user journeys, and envision solutions
  • Obtain input from internal and external stakeholders on the vision for new features and adjust plans accordingly
  • Work with user experience designers to create wireframes, obtain customer feedback on design concepts, and iterate on version updates
  • Work with project managers and software developers to create roadmaps, estimate the level of effort for individual tickets, participate in sprint grooming sessions, and coordinate releases
  • Work with product and software development teams to elicit requirements for features and define business rules; become an expert in ERB’s digital products so that definitions for new development work comport with ERB systems and existing product features
  • Conduct user acceptance testing prior to software releases
  • Coordinate product releases with internal teams; ensure that any necessary service interruptions are communicated to customers in advance of outages
  • Identify bugs based on external feedback or internal testing; write tickets defining issues; incorporate high priority bug fixes into development roadmaps
  • Support training needs for sales and marketing staff and contribute to go-to-market planning

The Technical Product Manager should have passion for ERB’s mission of serving the world’s best K-12 schools, strong collaboration and communication skills, and demonstrate ethical conduct in all things. They should be open to feedback in the service of helping ERB develop creative solutions to market problems and customer needs. The candidate should also ideally have the following skills and experience:
  • A bachelor’s degree; certificates in agile, scrum, and related disciplines a plus
  • 3-5 years of experience in product management or product development; project management skills a plus.
  • Experience in product development ideation processes, innovation engineering, and related methods
  • Proven ability to synthesize product requirements from multiple groups and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of and experience using agile product development principles
  • Knowledge of and experience using systems for issue and project tracking tasks such as Jira, Confluence, etc.
  • Ethical conduct in all things
